EIA Standards Committee

The ESC is the policy committee for technical standards development at ECIA. The ESC formulates industry domestic, international, and joint association standards and conformity assessment documents with a primary focus on passive electronic components and related technologies (e.g., capacitors, resistors, inductors, connectors, racks & panels, tape & reeled product, soldering technology, dependability, electronic display devices and printed electronics).

The EIA Technical Standards page provides more detailed information on specific EIA Standards Committees,  ECIA-managed US Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) to IEC Technical Committees (TCs) and current standards projects under the  Get Involved heading at the bottom of that page.

Committee Charter/Mission

The ESC oversees the internal processes for the operation of its Standards Committees, the development of industry standards, interaction with outside organizations, the strategic direction of the programs, and logistics for the meetings.  Yearly review and additions/modifications to the operating procedures maintain an efficient and effective formal standards development process accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In addition to about a dozen standards development committees, the ESC also is responsible for a dozen US Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) representing the US industry in international technical committees of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) based out of Geneva, Switzerland.

The EIA Standards Committee (ESC) actively seeks input from producers, users and general interest individuals in the electronics and electrical industry. Participation in the ECIA standards programs is open to both member and non-member companies who are directly and materially affected by matters addressed by the work. The three Interest Categories are: User, Producer, and General Interest. Presently, ECIA is specifically seeking additional participation in the User and General Interest categories. This typically includes, but is not limited to, OEMs, ODMs, Contract Manufacturers, and Electronics Distributors (User Category), as well individuals who have expertise in these areas but are not affiliated with a particular company in the industry (General Interest Category).

Participation in the ESC encourages the development of voluntary industry-driven standards, collaboration to ensure best practices, and excellent networking opportunities.
